  • Domhnall 'Guid' Chairbreach MacCárthaigh, 1st Lord of Carbery, reigned 1232-1252, and King of Desmond, reigned 1247-1252, allied the Carbery McCarthys and the Norman de Cogan family in 1249

  • Diarmaid Donn, 2nd Lord of Carbery, his first son, a quo “Clan Dermod,” reigned 1252-1262,

  • Domhnall Maol Chairbreach, 3rd Lord of Carbery, younger brother of Diarmaid Donn and sixth son of Domhnall Chairbreach, reigned 1262-1281, he was ceded “Desmond south of the Lee” by King Donal III of Desmond in 1281, hence he reigned as the 1st Sovereign Prince of Carbery, 1281-1310. However King Donal IV of Desmond, The MacCarthy Mór, invaded Carbery in 1283 and as a consequence of this Donal Maol murdered Donal IV in 1306, after which it was decreed that he and any future MacCarthy Reagh would not be allowed to succeed as MacCarthy Mór
